"Daddy's Girl"

I figured, since there was such a good response to the story, and since I've already completed the story I'll finish this one today.

Chapter 10, Part 2

Grayson held Raeanne in his arms, for how long he had no idea, but when her mother happened to walk up the stairs he grudgingly released her.

"My, my aren't you two cozy?" asked Janice with a wink.

"Um...I suppose." he answered, feeling the heat of embarrassment rush to his neck.

Raeanne's green eyes were wide, and rimmed in red from her tears, however she'd never looked better to him. "Thanks for ruining the moment, Mom." she quipped, laughing merrily.

"Anytime, that's my job." Janice winked again and took off in the direction she'd come. Most likely gone to find her husband and report the sightings.

"So where do we go from here?" asked Raeanne, her eyes sparkling with merriment and trust as she looked up at him.

"Well, I was thinking downstairs to combat the verbal assault that's on its way. Then possibly to pick up Eva from her play pen along side the couch. Maybe some dinner after that?" he grinned at her and extended a hand.

"Sure thing."

Together they descended the steps, and ended up having a long conversation with Rae's parents. With both hands, he picked up the babbling Eva from her playpen.

"We'll be back later!" called Raeanne as she closed the front door behind them.

"Well that was fun." he commented strapping Eva into her carseat.

"Oh, talking to Mom and Dad is the tip of the ice berg, just you wait and see how much fun Raeanne McGinty can be." she stuck her tongue out and got into the front seat.

"I'm beginning to think this might not have been the best idea." he prodded back as he got into his seat.

"Oh you'll see alright, Mr. Daniels." her big green eyes took in the sight of him, full smile fixated on him. Eva babbled from the backseat. Once more he felt like the strongest, most capable man on earth, and it was beginning to feel good.

He threw his head back and laughed, and with a touch of the gas they were off toward their happily ever after.
